Auropent is a clear, colourless solution. Each ml contains cyclopentolate hydrochloride 10 mg and  Benzalkonium chloride 0.2 mg.

 

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Auropent is a Mydriatic and Cycloplegic drug. Following topical application to the eye, cyclopentolate blocks the action of acetylcholine at the Muscarinic receptors in the iris sphincter and ciliary muscle thus produce Mydriasis and Cycloplegia. It has a rapid onset of action and a shorter duration of action than atropine or homatropine. The maximum mydriatic effect of cyclopentolate occurs within about  15-60 minutes. Maximum cycloplegic occurs within about 15-20 minutes. Mydriasis and cycloplegia generally last about 24 hours; however, some mydriasis may persist for several days.

 

INDICATIONS 

Auropent is used for Cycloplegic and Mydriasis in diagnostic procedures. Such as Cyclo Refraction.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF AUROPENT

Primary glaucoma or a tendency toward glaucoma, hypersensitivity to Belladonna alkaloids or any component of the products.

WARNINGS:

Ophthalmic use only. Not for injection. Determine the I0P and the depth of the angle of the anterior chamber before and during use to avoid glaucoma attacks. Use these products with caution where increased IOP may be encountered. CNS disturbances, the possibility of psychotic reaction and behavioral disturbance due to hypersensitivity to anticholinergic drugs. Use with extreme caution Increased susceptibility to cyclopentolate has been reported in infants, young children and in children with spastic paralysis or brain damage. Feeding intolerance may follow with ophthalmic use of this production in the neonates. It is recommended to with held feeding for 4 hours after the examination. Do not use in concentration above 0.5% in small infants.

PRECAUTIONS:

Avoid excessive systemic absorption by compressing the lacrimal sac with digital pressure during and for 2 to 3 minutes after installation. May produce drowsiness, blurred vision or sensitivity to light to dilated pupils, observe caution in performing other tasks requiring alertness or physical dexterity.

INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER MEDICATIONS:

Auropent may antagonize the Antiglaucoma and miotic actions of the longer-acting cholinergic (e.g, echothiophate, isoflurophate, demecarium). Cyclopentolate may also antagonize the Antiglaucoma actions of carbachol or pilocarpine; these agents may interfere with the Mydriatic action of cyclopentolate, which may be of clinical benefit.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION PRECAUTIONS:

Use only if clearly needed and potential benefits outweigh potential hazards to the foetus. Use with caution when it is administered to a nursing women.

ADVERSE REACTIONS OF CYCLOPENTOLATE:

Increased IOP; transient stinging / burning, irritation with prolonged use (e.g. Allergic lid reactions hyperemia, Follicular Conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, vascular congestion, oedema, exudates, eczematoid dermatitis) dryness of the mouth and skin, blurred vision, photophobia with or without corneal attaining, tachycardia, headache, parasympathetic stimulation, somnolence, visual hallucinations. Other toxic manifestations of anticholinergic drugs include; skin rash, abdominal distention in infants, unusual drowsiness, hyperpyrexia, vasodilation, urinary retention, diminished GI motility, decreased secretion in salivary and sweat glands, Pharynx, bronchi and nasal passages. Severe manifestations of toxicity include; cornea, medullary paralysis, death, severe reactions are manifested by hypotension with progressive respiratory depression.

 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Install one to two drops topically. To be repeated if required or as directed by eye professionals.

 

STORAGE CONDITION:

Store below 30 Degree Celsius.
