With increasing Air pollution in the capital city Kathmandu, there is a massive increase in the number of patient with eye allergies. According to Ophthalmologist Dr. Ben Limbu of Tilganga Eye Hospital, there is an increase in eye patient with allergies. The growth has risen to 50% increase in the last 15 years.

Cataract and Oculoplastic Specialist Dr Ben says,” People living in the capital city of Nepal have an unhealthy lifestyle, lack of balanced diet, habit of excessive consumption of junk food which is also indirectly or directly related to the increase in eye allergy. The main role is played by environmental pollution as well. People often visit tilganga eye hospital with the complaints of redness, itching, watering, and often seen having eye infections or allergy. Before many years, people were seen to have eye allergy or infection once a year. But in the recent times, people visit eye hospital with similar complains for 4-5 times a year. Dust and smoke enter the eye which results in dryness, irritation, itching, and infection. Dr Ben says,”30% to 40% of the patient is diagnosed having dry eye-related problems in tilganga eye hospital.

Cases of low vision are on the rise due to the increase in the patient with diabetes and blood pressure. Low vision problem is the major problem seen in people of the city area. Some people use eye drops for immediate relief but such eye drops can have a negative impact on the eyes.
