2nd Edition of the Myopia Awareness Walk: A Collective Step Toward Clearer Vision

0

On May 24, 2025 (Jestha 10, 2082), Drishti Eye Care Centre Pvt. Ltd., in association with the Nepalese Optometrist Association, Nepal Ophthalmic Society, and Nepal Ophthalmic Assistant Society, is organizing the 2nd Edition of the Myopia Awareness Walk to mark World Myopia Awareness Week 2025.

With the theme “Screens Down, Eyes Up!”, this year’s walk aims to highlight the growing burden of myopia, especially among children and youth, driven by increased screen time and indoor lifestyles. The event is a community-driven effort to encourage early awareness, healthy habits, and proactive vision care.

Why It Matters
Myopia is no longer just a vision issue—it’s becoming a global public health concern. Without timely intervention, high myopia can lead to serious eye conditions like retinal detachment, glaucoma, and even blindness. The walk seeks to educate the public about the causes of myopia, risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of regular eye examinations.

Who Can Participate
This walk is open to everyone who cares about eye health and the future of our children, including:
• Eye care professionals
• General fitness enthusiasts
• Teachers, students, and social workers
• Parents/guardians with children aged 8 and above
It is believed that collective awareness can make a lasting impact.
