Vision is the process of interpreting what is seen. Vision plays a key role in the learning process. Research shows that 80% of learning happens through vision. This just means that a vision problem can cause major setbacks for your child’s success in school. As a result, this can lead to frustration and poor self-esteem.
If your children are performing below their potential in school, look for these 5 signs of vision-related learning problems:
1) Their homework takes much longer than it should.

- Difficulty focusing
- An eye-tracking problem
2) They have trouble understanding what they read (i.e. poor reading comprehension).

3) They frequently skip or reread lines.

- An eye-tracking problem (inadequate ability to smoothly and accurately move the eyes from one point to another)

5) They reverse letters and words.

What to do if you see one or more of these signs???
Many of these vision problems will not be detected during a school vision screening or limited vision assessment as part of a school physical or routine pediatric health evaluation. If you notice your child experiencing one or more of these behaviours, schedule them an appointment for a comprehensive eye exam.
