The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is the regional intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union of nations in South Asia. Its member states include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. SAARC comprises 3% of the world’s area, 21% of the world’s population and 3.8% (US$2.9 trillion) of the global economy, as of 2015.

SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO) is an assembly of ophthalmologists from 8 countries in South Asia and is recognized by the governments of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries.

Nepal Ophthalmic Society is hosting XIV SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO) conference in Kathmandu, Nepal from 21st to 24th June 2018. According to the President of Nepal Ophthalmic Society (NOA), Prof. Suman S. Thapa MD, PhD “This meeting will focus on the latest updates on ophthalmic innovations and technology; on evidence-based practices in various subspecialties of ophthalmology. It will also be a time to connect with old and new colleagues.”

More than thousand of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and other eye health professional from 8 SAARC countries, experts, and speakers from all over the world, are expected to participate in this Ophthalmic Scientific gathering taking place in the city of temples.

The theme of this Conference is identified as “From Darkness to Light”. SAO is going to be held in Hotel Yak and Yeti Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, Nepal
